Honduras Customs is bolstering its fight against drug trafficking and fraud detection with the implementation of modern scanners at key border points. These advanced machines will significantly improve the inspection of goods and containers, ensuring greater accuracy in detecting illegal substances and undeclared items. This modernization aligns with the country’s ongoing efforts to enhance border security and economic control. The new scanners are expected to strengthen national security and boost the efficiency of customs operations.

During a recent visit to Sjursøya in Oslo, Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre and Finance Minister Trygve Slagsvold Vedum observed the use of an outdated scanner to inspect containers for illegal substances. Though well-maintained, the equipment is overdue for replacement.

The Norwegian government is allocating an additional NOK 118 million in the revised national budget to upgrade Customs equipment and increase staffing. This investment will support new scanners, with enhanced capacity to intercept narcotics and other contraband, boosting security at key points such as Oslo, Brevik, and Ørje.

During a major prison raid at Santiago 1 Penitentiary, housing 1,150 inmates, authorities confiscated 376 phones, 112 weapons, and 4 kg of drugs, marking a significant achievement in the Gendarmerie’s decade-long fight against smuggling by inmates and third parties.
